Switch Ambassador Network · 2027 applications open

The 2027 network is recruiting. Here's the map, the roles, and how to apply.

Applications for the 2027 Switch Ambassador Network opened October 27 and close November 28, 2026. Here's what's changing, who we're looking for, and how to apply.

Apply: Regional AmbassadorApply: Lead Ambassador

A map that looks like the world looks

In 2026 the network ran on six regions and fourteen student ambassadors, and between them they reached more than 5,000 students outside the competition itself: a regional debate final in Dar es Salaam, a three-day campus festival at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, a 24-hour data challenge, a hackathon in Germany, and screenings on every continent. You can see all of it on the Switch Ambassador Network page.

In 2027 the map redraws. Seven hubs, twenty-five named territories, and one Regional Ambassador in each, so every part of the world has a seat and every ambassador has a defined patch to build. Seats follow the size of the territory, the people in it, and the university landscape, which is why Asia and Africa get five each and the Pacific gets two.

Two roles

For students

Regional Ambassador

Who: undergraduate or graduate students, any year, any major.

Term: one year, late January through December 2027.

Time: 3 to 5 hours a week, heavier around events and lighter around exams.

What you do: build a regional engagement plan with your team, run events (screenings, workshops, debates, hackathons, info sessions), build partnerships with universities and student organizations, and bring new teams into the Switch Global and Regional Competitions.

What you get: funding, Switch branding and event support for approved proposals, real program and partnership experience, documentation for academic or internship credit, and a path to Lead Ambassador.

For grad students and professionals

Lead Ambassador

Who: master's and PhD students, and working professionals in industry, government or academia.

Term: two years, late January 2027 through December 2028, with a check-in after year one.

Time: about 8 to 10 hours a month. The value is leadership and mentoring, not running the most events.

Hubs hiring: Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and LATAM. MENA and Pacific report through the SAN Coordinator for now.

What you do: turn SAN priorities into a plan for your hub, chair Regional Team meetings, mentor the Regional Ambassadors, open doors with universities and industry, and sit on the SAN Leadership Team.

What you get: regional strategy and team leadership experience, visibility as a senior volunteer leader in a global energy community, a direct line into Switch Campus strategy, and documentation for professional development hours or academic credit.

You don't have to start at the beginning, and moving up is based on performance: competition participant, Campus Ambassador, Regional Ambassador, Lead Ambassador, alumni mentor.

How selection works

October 27 to November 28, 2026: applications open. Each role has its own form. Plan on 20 to 30 minutes with your resume or CV, two short written responses, and a two-minute video recorded on your phone (Lead applicants also name two references). Progress isn't saved between sessions, so finish in one sitting.
By December 23: shortlisted applicants hear back.
January 6 to 20, 2027: video interviews with the Switch Campus team.
Late January 2027: the term begins with onboarding and your first hub meeting.

Coming in 2027: Campus Activations

Not every student wants a year-long role, and not every great idea needs one. Starting in 2027, a campus club, student organization, or group of students can propose an event or project on their own campus, and Switch Campus helps develop, fund, and run it. The student who leads a completed activation earns Campus Ambassador recognition. There's nothing to apply for yet. Full details arrive early in the new year, and Grid members hear first.

Applications close November 28, 2026
